and my sin is always before me.”  Psalm 51:3.

Repent and believe the good news!”  Mark 1:15.

Exhortation

Brothers and sisters in Christ, the Scriptures urge us to acknowledge and confess our wickedness before Almighty God our heavenly Father with humble and repentant hearts that our sins may be forgiven through His infinite goodness and mercy in Jesus Christ our Lord.
We should always humbly admit our wickedness before God, but especially when we meet together to give thanks for the great benefits we have received from Him; to praise and worship Him; to hear his holy word and to ask what is necessary for our bodies and souls. Therefore let us come before the throne of our gracious God and say together:

Confession (said by the whole congregation)

Almighty and most merciful Father,
We have strayed from your ways like lost sheep,
We have left undone what we ought to have done,
And we have done what we ought not to have done.
We have followed our own ways and our own desires,
And we have neglected and broken your holy laws.
Have mercy on us Lord.
Forgive those who repent and confess their sins.
According to Your promises declared in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Grant, merciful Father, for His sake, that from now on
We may live godly, righteous and obedient lives,
To the glory of your Holy Name.
Amen.

Assurance of forgiveness (pronounced by the minister)

Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, does not desire the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his wickedness and live. He has given authority and commandment to his ministers to declare to his people that he pardons and forgives the sins of all who truly repent and believe his holy gospel.
Therefore let us ask him to grant us true repentance and his Holy Spirit, that we may please him now, and that the rest of our life may be pure and holy; so that at the last we may come to his eternal joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord’s Prayer (said together)

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your Name,
Your kingdom come,
Your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.

Petitions
Lord, open our lips,
And we shall declare your praise.
Lord, make speed to save us,
Make haste to help us, our God.

Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning, so now and for ever. Amen
Let us praise the Lord.
The Lord’s name be praised.
Psalm 95
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;
let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving
and extol him with music and song.
3 For the Lord is the great God,
the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth,
and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it,
and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the Lord our Maker;
7 for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Today, if only you would hear his voice,
8 “Do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah,
as you did that day at Massah in the wilderness,
9 where your ancestors tested me;
they tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation;
I said, ‘They are a people whose hearts go astray,
and they have not known my ways.’
11 So I declared on oath in my anger,
‘They shall never enter my rest.’”

Glory be to the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit:
As it was in the beginning, so now and for ever. Amen
Readings from the Old and New Testaments; and the Psalms
Readers begin with, “Hear the Word of God as it is written in…”
And conclude with, “This is God’s word to us.”
Apostles’ Creed (said together – all standing)

I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, he died and was buried.
He descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty;
from there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit;
Christ’s holy universal church,
the fellowship of Christians,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Prayers (said responsively; may be replaced by the Litany)

Lord, have mercy on us,
And grant us your salvation.
Lord, save our rulers,
And mercifully hear our prayers.
Fill your ministers with righteousness,
And make your chosen people joyful.
Lord, save your people,
And bless your children.
Lord, give peace in our time,
For you only are our help and defence.
Lord, give us clean hearts,
And do not take your Holy Spirit from us.

The Collect for the day

Prayer for peace
Lord, the creator of peace and harmony, whom to know is eternal life, and to serve is perfect freedom: Defend us your humble servants from all the attacks of our enemies, that we, confident in your protection may not fear them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for grace
Lord, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, we thank you for bringing us safely to the beginning of this day; guard us in it by your mighty power from sin and danger; and may all that we do be in accordance with your holy will, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

For the extension of Christ’s Kingdom
God of all the nations of the earth, we pray to you to remember the multitude of men and women who, though created in your image, are ignorant of your love. Grant that by the witness, prayers and labours of those who serve our Lord Jesus Christ, perishing souls may be saved and brought from unbelief to worship you. In the name of the one you have sent to be the resurrection and the life, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

A general thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you most humble and hearty thanks, for all your goodness and loving kindness to us and to all people. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. Give us, we pray, such a deep sense of all your mercies, that we may be truly thankful and praise you not only with our lips, but with our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ, our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit be all honour and glory, for ever and ever.  Amen.
Prayer for Africa
God bless Africa;
Guard her children;
Guide her leaders;
And give her peace,
for Jesus Christ’s sake.
Amen.

Prayer for those in authority
Almighty God, who rules over the nations of the world, we commend to your merciful care the people of this land that being guided by your providence we may dwell secure in your peace. Grant to the President and to all in authority, wisdom to know your will and strength to walk in your ways. Fill them with the love of truth, the love of justice and the love of righteousness, that they may serve your people faithfully to your honour and glory; and bring them to your everlasting kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.
Prayer for bishops, clergy and people
Almighty and everlasting God send down your gracious Holy Spirit on our bishops, ministers and all congregations of our church.  May they truly please you. Bless them continually, to the honour of our advocate and mediator Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Prayer of St. Chrysostom
Almighty God, who has given us grace at this time to make our prayers to you in unity; and has promised that when two or three are gathered together in your name you will grant their requests: Fulfil now Lord the desires and appeals of your servants, as may be most expedient for them; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the world to come, life everlasting.  Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:14
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Amen.
