Assurance of Forgiveness

Assurance of forgiveness said by the minister standing.

Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, does not desire the death of a sinner, but rather that he should turn from his wickedness and live.  He has given authority and commandment to His ministers to declare to His people that He pardons and forgives the sins of all who truly repent and believe His holy gospel.

Therefore, let us ask Him to grant us true repentance and His Holy Spirit, that we may please Him now, and that the rest of our life may be pure and holy so that at the last we may come to His eternal joy through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assurance of forgiveness said by the minister standing.

Minister:  Our heavenly Father has promised to forgive all those who truly repent and trust in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord and Saviour.  God’s word declares that they have been reconciled to Him by Christ’s death on the cross.  In Christ, and through faith in Him, we may approach God with freedom and confidence.  Christ has made peace between God and His people.

Minister: Glory be to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Congregation: As it was in the beginning, is now and will be forever.  Amen.

Minister: Sing to the Lord a new song.

Congregation: For He has done marvelous things.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father who of His greatest mercy has promised to forgive the sins of all who, with heartfelt repentance and true faith, turn to Him, have mercy on you, pardon and deliver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all that is good and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Hear these words of encouragement from our Lord Jesus Christ to all who truly turn to Him:

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Congregation: We lift them up to the Lord.

Minister: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

Congregation: It is fitting and right to do so.

Minister: It is entirely fitting, right and our duty at all times, and in all places to give thanks to You Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God.

Congregation: Therefore, with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven, we praise Your glorious name for ever, saying : Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of Your glory.  Glory to You, Lord most high.  Amen.
