THIS Year Emmanuel welcomed another ministry worker onto the team. Wesley Henrico took on the position of full-time Youth worker from January 2013. Wesley and his family have been part of St Peter’s, Fish Hoek for a number of years. After finishing high school and Bible college studies, Wesley completed two years’ ministry apprenticeship at St Peter’s before moving on to the Youth worker’s position in “far flung” Port Elizabeth. Wes has certainly hit the ground running and the youth and young adults have responded positively to his arrival. He oversees about 25 energetic teenagers every Friday night as well as a mid-week young adults’ study group. Emmanuel has certainly clicked with their new young people’s pastor and his presence has opened up new doors of opportunity for gospel ministry. Emmanuel now has a full-time pastor, Rev Glenn Lyons; children’s worker, Lindiwe Banda; and youth worker, Wesley Henrico. Our part-time team at Emmanuel PE includes a secretary, Diane Haschick; seniors’ pastor and hospital chaplain, Rev Mike Scully; and women’s worker, Sandy Lyons.
“Our next two projects include growing the building and the staff ,” says Pastor Lyons. “Lindi and Wesleyare making such a difference to our young people’s ministry, but the wonderful problem we now have is that we are running out of space. we’re hoping to have plans for a children’s centre in place by the end of this year.” An assistant pastor is also going to be vital with Glenn Lyons’ growing responsibility as Bishop’s chaplain for the Eastern Cape region. We look forward to seeing what the Lord will do in this active corner of God’s kingdom.
