Sunday the 24th of April saw a double celebration at St Thomas Church in Heideveld – the celebration of 53 years of the church’ existence, and the ordination of Alun Burt.
St Thomas Church started meeting in April 1963 at the YWCA hall in District 6, and moved to Heideveld in the late 1960s as a consequence of the Group Areas Act. The church celebrated this year’s birthday with this special service and a festive family lunch in the church hall immediately after.
The celebration was made doubly special by the incorporation of the ordination of our Youth Worker, Alun Burt into the service. Alan and Debbie have been serving at St Thomas for the past 8 years, arriving in SA originally as Crosslinks missionaries serving with U-turn & Arise respectively. St Thomas has been blessed and encouraged by Alun’s faithful ministry over the past years – especially his love for our youth and passion for teaching them God’s word. Alun was made Deacon by Alan Noble, who preached from 1 Corinthians 3, encouraging us to work together in building the church by preaching God’s word.
